1) ~5 years ago
2) I think I was ~12 3) My grandfather 4) He had a stroke, at first we though he was going to be fine but he slipped into a coma and they said he would die in a couple of days. 5) I'm not exactly sure, but I do know that I was pretty chocked when I found out that he was going to die. It really didn't sink in for a while. It's also a strange feeling knowing you will be going to someone's funeral when they are still alive. 6) I saw my grandpa often, but not enough that I could honestly say I wouldn't know what to do without him. I think I was kind of depressed with the fact that I felt I was just starting to reach the age where I was beginning to develop a mature adult relationship with him and that never really happened. 7) I make sure that I remember him and what kind of person he was. He was very generous, he bought me my first computer so I can credit him with sparking that interest. Anyone else? |

1. About 13 years ago
2. I was around 8 3. A neighbor/friend of the family 4. It happened suddenly. She had some type of a wagon (car) and someone found it parked somewhere and she was dead in the back. To this day I don't know if it was suicide, natural death, or murder. 5. I felt bad for her son - he was about my age. I guess I also wondered what had happened. 6. I didn't know her very well, but I was sad when she died. I attended her funeral with my parents and I remember crying a lot. 7. I think what helped me understand what was going on and accept that she was in a better place was when I was at her funeral. I remember a large bouquet of flowers on her casket (although she wasn't in it, she had been cremated) and one flower in particular stood out to me. I was looking at it the whole time, thinking how beautiful it was. Then towards the end of the funeral her son went up to the casket, pulled out that very same flower, and said, crying, "this one's for my mom." It made me feel like she was still there somehow. I don't see death as a bad thing anymore - just as a next step.
