WARNING - DON'T ANSWER CALLS FROM 719-948-998!!!

Not really sure where this should be posted, but here seems good.

This isn't a forwarded message from me... this is information straight from Gerbil.

I just received a phone call from 719-948-9988 which was a spanish recording. Normally I don't answer numbers I don't recognize, but I recognized the area code and figured it was a friend calling from a different number. When I answered, I got a static filled recording in spanish.

I hung up and googled the number, and what I found were numerous forums, blogs, etc... of people who have been called by this number. The number is apparently from the Qwest company, and is in the Pueblo Colorado area. Most of the information I read didn't give many details, but I came across a few tid bits that said to watch your phone bills for 2.99 / minute charges. Some friends have already called saying they've received phone calls from the same number yesterday. I don't know what's true information and what isn't, but something is going on with this number. It appears that the number is mostly calling cell phones, and isn't limited to certain carriers/providers, or locations. Calls have been logged by people in what appeared to be nearly every state, from almost every major cell phone provider.

I would suggest adding this number to your phone number listing on your phones, and choose a name that immediately lets you know not to answer the call.

Hope no one gets any fraudulent charges... this seems like a scam I've seen before, but I can't remember exactly what the scam was called.

I have very few area codes that I recognize, so if I didn't save the number and name it "DO NOT ANSWER", I'd probably answer it again thinking it was the same friend calling from a number I don't have saved for her.

I suck at remembering numbers... takes forever just to memorize a new phone number for myself if I have to change it.

I think that happened to me. It was a few weeks ago so I don't remember the exact number, but I definitely got a call from a different area code with a recorded voice talking in Spanish. I hung up right away because I don't have time for bullshit.

There.... fixed the title for those overly picky people. My apologies for missing one number on the title... I was posting this on 6 other forums that I frequent. All 6 are of better quality than AS, in regards to topics, members, and the ability to stay on topic. At least the only mistake was on the lowest quality forum, which I frequent only for the sole purpose of finding a few good morons to laugh at. Low and behold, I've found one already.

I'm ok with that. Besides, there's nothing wrong with the truth. Most of the other forums I PAY to be on because of the information and help I receive on there. They're vehicle forums with information and assistance pertaining to things I own and enjoy. This is a forum for being socializing about random topics. If Gerbil wants to be upset that I tried to point out an error, so be it. I read the OP but didn't realize after reading the rest of the thread that it contained the entire number. I saw so many "Re:" with a number missing I assumed it was always so.

I apologize for upsetting him.
