Poem of Ancient History
Yeah, so I just found this poem I wrote once. I don't know when it was and I think I meant to write more. I've written much better stuff but I thought I'd share something crappy first and gauge your reactions from it before going straight to the bread and butter.
-=-=-=- You birthed society, culture, and civilization in ancient days past From your glory you fell to ruin, among regions you rank dead last Here the first pottery was fashioned, and bronze tools of the trade And yet despite what you've given us, you still can't make the grade In newly established settlements, you domesticated goat, sheep and cow You developed irrigation and agriculture, invented the wheel and the plough Sumerian civilization urbanized bringing with it cuneiform writing Though it never was to become strong due to centuries of infighting The ancient cities along flood plains led to sails floating on the Nile A unified Egypt became the first nation and she stood for quite awhile To the northeast between the two rivers, Sumerians trembled with fear Babylonia was growing larger and conquests of city-states drew near And thus came the ziggurats, built to worship and honor Babylonian gods And Egypt began pyramid construction in the desert against all odds. She would then increase her domain, seeing all other nations with scorn Farther away legendary Troy lay in ruin not long after Judaism was born And so ends the chronicles which speak of the Ancient Middle East A new era was dawning as the age of bronze cities had ceased In the next tale we will learn of the strong Arab nations so great We'll learn and ask why they should become such a dreadful state
