The dust has settled..

This is something very similar to the recent submission by me called 'War'.....it has much the same feeling, an much like the other piece it also finishes on a question...

The dust has settled..

My jaw hurts, my eyes sting,
I am bloody an bruised,
my armour is now tattered,
torn an twisted round my battered frame...

I fought hard, oh so hard,
in the end though I did not triumph,
I lost myself in the time span,
It all slowed down...

For those few moments time stood almost still,
not perfectly stopped, but close enough,
I saw my compatriates fall an die,
why do I always see this?...

I feel the strength leave me as my sword falls,
my body crumbles to the ground,
I pray for death, but he does not hear my feeble call,
I call again, but still nothing...

Why did we fight? I dont even know,
nobody does, but we fight anyway,
it makes no sense to live an train,
to fight an die...

but for what?

Re: The dust has settled..

Between the 3rd and the 4th verse, did he get stabbed? or did he just drop from exhaustion?
It's a very strong poem. Is there some other meaning behind it? Seems like there is and this could be a metaphor. Dunno. Maybe i think to deep into things. anywhoo, on a lighter note, that is a really good work of art. i saw that as it was happening.
