Dilios - A display of will power.

Four months ago Michael went to Armageddon and decided to go to Supanova dressed up as Spartacus. Late February he asked me to go as well, dressed as a Spartan. I jumped at the idea and chose Dilios.

Unfortunately for both of us, we were overweight and quite unfit. I was 96kgs and Michael was 102kgs. So started a dedicated exercise and diet regime, by going to the gym 6 days a week, often for 2-3 hours a day and changing our diet to extremely healthy food. I lost 18kgs and am now 78kgs and Michael lost 15kgs and is now 87kgs. At least 200 hours each were spent at the gym.

The costumes were almost completely made by hand, with the only things purchased were my official 300 vanbraces and brooch, and Michael's helmet. The rest of the costumes were painstakingly made by hand.

Michael's shoulder guards were made by hand, carving the leather in designs drawn up by watching the Spartacus series. The armour chosen was from battles Spartacus had in the later episodes with short hair.

My cape was the hardest thing to make. The cape was made from two different materials, the outer layers were a heavy thin red material the flowed, with the inner layer made from a thicker warmer blanket material for warmth. The pants were difficult to make also, but a welcome relief from the painstaking difficulties of making the cape sit right. It was easier work though I ruined my hands with the leather needle.

At first we were unsure of how intense it would actually be to make the costumes and get fit and healthy, so we didn't document the different stages or write down how most of the designs were made.

What happened to the whole "no-beard-I-am-a-grownup" thing?

Also, that's pretty cool, I would definitely not have the guts to do that.

Re: Dilios - A display of will power.

Damn. This isn't something I could prepare for in a mere 200 hours. I think I'd need twice as many days if I wanted to dress as a Spartan.

Now, there is one guy in 300 I'm ready to go as...

Re: Dilios - A display of will power.

Amazingly, Anna found this photo of me.

And Jason, it wasn't a mere 200 hours, it was a complete change in lifestyle and choice. Food was completely revamped.

You can do it, if you want to.

Re: Dilios - A display of will power.

I want to. I just need help.

You remember Casandra from years ago? She's lost ~100 lbs in the last two years. I'm intend to talk to her more about it and hope she can give me support.

I have a net loss of 45lbs over the last two years, but that would be 75lbs if I hadn't gained back so much weight in the last three months.

Re: Dilios - A display of will power.

You'd be surprised how it actually works.

Those fad, lose weight quick diets, they don't work but not for the reason people usually think. Most people who are unfit and unhealthy have around large amounts of toxins in their body which latch onto water and retain weight. So when people do these 2 week lose weight quick diets, they're not losing fat, they're losing the toxins, and then 2 weeks later when they have eaten crap again they put that weight back on. In effect doing absolutely nothing.

Then you've got the weight loss programs without exercise. These are the worst ones you can do. You lose weight, but not fat, you actually lose muscle mass which is a lot harder to grow back.

Good work with the 45lbs, and the 50lbs, but unless you put in a solid health and fitness regime that you followed, I'd say they aren't legitimate losses.

But you can do it, if you actually want to. I was told I'd lose my leg and never walk again. I was told that the muscle atrophy in my leg was permanent and I'd never get strength back on my leg. Yet in one of the photos my mate and I are lifting a guy in the air who would have weighed 280lbs. How's that for a guy who 4 months ago could barely lift himself up?

Re: Dilios - A display of will power.

Wow, Brock. I can definitely tell you have a more upbeat and cheery attitude than any time that I've known you before. It's great that you've returned to good health after your accident.

News of this makes me feel inspired and dedicated to better health and living.
Between you and Casandra, I'm stoked to see what I can accomplish!
