In places where intraplate quakes occur (like Mineral, VA and now OK), the danger lies in the fact that buildings and emergency response teams aren't prepared for earthquakes. As a kid, I used to peel the paint off the bumpy parts. :P Those giant bolts go from one end of the building through the masonry to the other. On some of the government buildings in the city, plagues are placed over the external cross of the bolts either commemorating the 1886 earthquake or providing information about the building itself.
