Something I've been meaning to do...

...for a long time. I'm turning to this community because I don't know who else to ask and its driving me fucking CRAZY.

Over the last few years, I've been DLing music from a variety of sources and have run across quite a number of pieces of music (pop, classical, jazz; heck at least one piece from EVERY genre of music) which got me to say to myself, "AHH! so THAT's the name/artist of that song I've been wondering about for years..."

As a result, my collection of "what's the name of that song" pieces has dwindled down to one. ONE song which has been driving me quietly insane since about 1972. Attached is my feeble attempt to recapture and record a portion of the piece as I recall it from my childhood. Don't pay attention to the instrument; just listen to the melody. Play it for anyone who you think might be old enough to identify it.
Please.

The begin and end reminds me of Heart and Soul. I'll keep thinking on it though.

OK: "Heart and Soul". That's a good start. Who is the artist? I'm thinking someone like Barry White because I have a faint memory of a "crooner" type vocal which is actually what the melody I attached was from. This (so far as I can recall) would probably be classed as R&B rather than mainstream pop.

So many remixes... I've got Louis Armstrong, Johhny Mathis, Elvis Presley, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis, Luther Vandross and Dean Martin stuck in my head.

The original goes back to the 30s so it could be a lot of people and likely someone more obscure whose name I never knew.

With the formal sounding music, it sounds to me like something from a movie or even a hymn.

I don't know.
The lyrics don't fit the meter of the song as I recall it and the ^%(^%$(^%$*#$ Apple plug-in I just spent 1h 45m downloading doesn't work on the site so I can't hear the music which is supposed to play when the page opens.
