I don't mind if they take a different approach altogether except for one thing...they have to keep the music the same! You know the John Williams music that started in the Christopher Reeves Superman series...how can that be replaced? It hit the nail on the head when it comes to the overall mood and what Superman is all about. So yeah, change it up all you want, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep the music the same...

If Hans Zimmer / James Newton Howard score this, then you need not worry about the quality of the music.

And it seems the quality of the directing/writing has already been secured. ;)

Superman is the superhero I can relate to the most when it comes to alter-ego. If I had the choice to be any superhero in the world it would be Superman...not just because of the powers and abilities he has (I've had more dreams of flying than any other type of dream), but mostly what the Superman character represents. Superman is about making the best possible choice in life between what you can do and what you should do, I believe more than any other superhero character.

Also, the Superman-Lois Lane love story connects with me in the sense that every guy would like to meet that girl that thinks of him as her Superman, and every guy would love to be able to protect his woman like Superman does with Lois. So yeah, Superman represents a lot of positive things to me. Especially nowadays when men are letting themselves become so emasculated and more women are treating men more like a glorified accessory handbag and/or walking sperm bank than anything else.

Plus, I first started watching Superman (Christopher Reeves' movies) with my dad when I was a child, so it has a nostalgic sentimental dad-son bonding value to me in that sense too.

Other than that, I disagree: Humans' natural tendency is toward...well, evil. People do not naturally tend to do what is right--physically, socially, grammatically, or in any other way. That's why we need Superman--the great metaphor for how our true identity is right out in the open, because we're so lame that we don't wear a mask like any respectable superhero should, either a testament to the stupidity of the human race or to the extraordinary genius (and slipshod allegory) of a maskless hero.

I wonder who they'll get to play the role. Robert Downey Jr.?

- Joseph Gordon-Levitt has reportedly signed on to star as the main villain in the next edition of the Batman film franchise. The star will appear as Alberto Falcone, son of Carmine Falcone, who was played by Tom Wilkinson in "Batman Begins."

According to a new report from Variety, Gordon-Levitt's character is also known as the "Holiday Killer." He is the heir to his father's mob empire and ruthlessly kills competing gangsters over holidays in an attempt to gain ground in their ongoing turf wars.

This will be the second recent collaboration for Gordon-Levitt and director Christopher Nolan. The pair also worked together on Nolan's 2010 smash hit "Inception." The next edition of the Batman series is titled "The Dark Knight Rises" and is due in theaters on July 20, 2012.

Heh, James Marsden would make for a pretty ridiculous (but hilarious) Superman, but I don't think he really "fits" Nolan's style. I can't really think of who else would match....

Well, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight (and no doubt The Dark Knight Rises when it comes out), first of all, if you haven't seen.
Inception is also awesome.
Those three are quintessential Nolan, methinks.

Many people like The Prestige, but... it might be a little *too* strange. I've also heard Memento is good, but sadly haven't seen yet.

Pretty much, the sole reason I will watch this movie (Superman: Man of Steel) is because Nolan is directing and writing it, so that says something about his epicness (otherwise, I kind of find Superman to be a doofus--sorry, Funk).

Looking at that link...I see Viggo Mortensen is in the cast!! But I can't actually connect to imdb at the moment, for some reason, to see who he plays (though my clone says he's playing the villain O.O).

He looks a lot like the other fellow you were thinking of (i.e., he is "superman"). Nolan knows. Simply, he just knows.

Not that superficial appearances say everything about the quality of the casting (wincing now at my "beeping and moaning" about Nolan's "Catwoman" choice and casting). Now when the tables have turned (as we ogle the pretty man possibilities), I'm starting to see that in a different light... Oops! <:D

I'm excited about this. The last reboot was too loyal to the previous movies and was bad in general.

I'd be more excited if Nolan were directing, but he's producing it. David Goyer is writing it, so that's promising.

Zack Snyder is directing. He did 300 (meh) and Watchmen (sigh). Visually stunning but empty. I hope this material gives him some substance.

Kevin Costner is going to play Jonathan Kent, and Diane Lane is going to play Martha Kent -- Clark's parents. Good choices.
