god i hate the internet

besides some of the good porn i've seen over the years, it's really brought me nothing but pain. out of the pain though, i need to find pleasure and in some ways I have.

example being this here place.

now what im mainly saying is, because of the internet i have come across a certain kind of person, who i would not even know existed, if the interent was gone. ughh
that's my point.
There are people in this world now, who never existed to me, ever before. Now they are here and all they do is annoy me. They post every stupid thought that comes to their head on facebook.

Now see, it's different on this here message board. Sure you people could start posting mindless crap, but the thing is, is I HAVE to click on your thread topic to see what crap you wrote.
INSTEAD, stupid facebook has it, that as soon as I log in, there is everyone's stupid crap waiting to be skimmed through. I wish there was something I could do to have it so it'll ask me, "Do you care to see what Emma wrote today? She wrote 10 status updates in the last 5 minutes." "Do you need to see what Liz has wrote? She's been online for the past 12 hours, and has a total of 25 status updates."
No, I don't care, and No I don't need to see that stupid shit.
I could just scroll down like I do on "New Posts" page. I see the title, it's posted by EC. -Maybe i'll click on that to check it out.
I see the title, it's posted by Funk. Nope, not clicking it, and I don't have to see the crap he copy/pasted.

This way I can categorize those who just post stupid shit and I'll never have to read their crap versus, someone I know who doesn't post stupid shit, like Yugoloth or even Jenn. Sometimes I click on Christian's topics, but most of the time, his shit is boring.

My problem is I have 90 friends on facebook. I do know most of them in real life. But I never would have known they would be the type of person that I despise, posting up all kinds of stupid all seconds of the day, because it's so damn convienent for them with their stupid cell phones. DO YOU REALLY NEED TO POST THAT STUPID SHIT TO FACEBOOK? NO YOU DONT.

LOG THE FUCK OUT.

pretty soon there's gonna be a holiday where people will turn off their phones and then they will all just start talking out loud like a flock of crows in the trees.

No, you make good points. When I'm not guilty of the things you describe (as no doubt I am often), I feel the same way. It would be interesting, and probably quite cathartic, to just entirely purge our lives of electronic things--even if just for one day. Impracticality be ... smote.

I know what you mean. I don't often post status updates, but when I do they are either ironic or poke fun at other people's updates. Occasionally, I'll post a one-line joke I just came up with.

Here's one of those posts poking fun at others. This one came at the end of the day of the "Rapture" that everyone was going on about:

So what are all the people going to do tomorrow to overload our news feeds? How about every few hours you post to remind us that you posted yesterday about how you hadn't been raptured?

This is kinda sorta related to this topic....lately I've been wondering if the next generation of people will suddenly despise the internet and quit using it, preferring talking face to face and actual phone conversations versus text.

Probably not. However, you have to wonder whether successive generations will get tired of all of the crap on the internet...'cause I am. I have my few sites I visit (amazon, netflix, here, and news sites every once in awhile) but other than doing research on school databases, I find little that interests me. Is that weird?

If and when facebook goes out of style, imagine explaining that to your kids. Or something like farmville or other such crap. There is such....junk on the internet.


Oh, and for the facebook problem, if you don't do this already, you should hide the people that constantly post annoying stuff. I do that a lot, unfortunately, and if I feel like seeing what they're up to I go to their wall. It's helped in terms of maintaining my sanity. And I block the farmville or other such apps so it doesn't clutter up my newsfeed.

nah, it's not weird. I go to Facebook, email, and then this site. I dont know what else to do on the net.

i dont think the kids will lose the cell phone texts and facebook status updates until we knock ourselves out in the heads with rocks.

Do you think people are losing essential human skills? like face to face chatting and maybe reaction times are slower...maybe everyone's neck is gonna be broke when theyre older because of the way you have to look at your phone when you're watching stupid tv on it!

I've had friends do that before when I'm hanging out with them. I politely start gathering up my stuff and then tell them "I'm really sorry, i thought you could hang out. Next time just let me know if you're busy!" Passive aggressive? Maybe. But I found they get defensive when I give 'em the direct approach.

And yes, I think people are losing essential skills. Hence the friends you have that come over and spend the whole time texting.

Agreed. I actually went to Google and did a search on "internet boring" to see if others felt the same way.

I go to a few sites, and I sometimes try to find new and interesting things, but it all starts to look the same at this point.

And, yes, people staring at phones and texting others while claiming to spend time with you is annoying. I heard someone sum up that phenomenon this way, "Clearly, even when we're with people we like, we'd rather be talking to someone else."

Srsly. Also, texting when driving (AGH!!)... texting when ordering (*sneer*), texting when... yeah. My sister and I own a TracFone between us--used solely for practical reasons and the occasional *verbal* chat between us. Texting is the devil. Satan texts.

I completely agree that humans are losing basic communication skills due to their addictions to their cell phones and social networking sites.
The worse part is the fact that so many of us are guilty of being oblivious to the here and now while we tweet or like or skype...
In fact, I'm writing this on my phone since I just turned off my computer.
To make matters worse, I read a tweet from Time magazine today claiming that 53% of tennagers surveyed said they would give up their sense of smell for their phone. Although I wonder about the accuracy of a statistic like that, it certainly is believeable.

Moreover, I think that we are using social networking as an excuse to be lazy and neglect our friends and family. There is a problem when people think that keeping in touch online will placate their friends. Even subconciously, poking someone once per day seems to be enough contact for some.

Its as if we would never survive if we were to suddenly return to the way things used to be done. The world keeps getting faster and God forbid if we don't all keep up.

I must admit that none of my friends play with their phones while I am hanging out. I am far too entertaining in person. I think any who have met me IRL can attest to that (David-, Jasmine, Dana, et al.)

If I don't like the way things are going (i.e., people texting or viewing FB on their phones) when I'm hanging out, I will just get louder and more obnoxious.
