Right brain or left?

I found this today and it has to be the weirdest image I've ever seen. It is actually a test to determine whether you use more of one or the other side of your brain but it is also a damn weird optical illusion.
Just to refresh one's memory (right or left brained), the website says:

Quote:
The Right Brain vs Left Brain test ... do you see the dancer turning clockwise or anti-clockwise?
If clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain and vice versa.

Most of us would see the dancer turning anti-clockwise though you can try to focus and change the direction; see if you can do it.

LEFT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses logic
detail oriented
facts rule
words and language
present and past
math and science
can comprehend
knowing
acknowledges
order/pattern perception
knows object name
reality based
forms strategies
practical
safe

RIGHT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses feeling
"big picture" oriented
imagination rules
symbols and images
present and future
philosophy & religion
can "get it" (i.e. meaning)
believes
appreciates
spatial perception
knows object function
fantasy based
presents possibilities
impetuous
risk taking

When I first looked, I clearly saw her spinning CCW. I took my eyes off the screen for a moment and when I looked again, she was turning in the other direction. I found that if you look not at the dancer, but the shadow of her foot for a moment then back she will have reversed her direction...

Re: Right brain or left?

I can see here turning both ways...

also under right/left brain functions... I fit most of them in both categories...

I wonder is being left handed has anything to do with it? I know that the left side of the brain controls the right side of your body (and vice versa)

Re: Right brain or left?

I know that I use both brain sides a lot, but I only see her going clockwise no matter what trick I use. However, I am very left eye dominant, which is controlled by the right brain, so that could have something to do with only seeing one direction.

I suck a visual tests cause my eyes suck.

So that tells me I am right brained, which makes sence to me, I fell under all the descriptions of a right brained person, but it still doesn't explain to methe idea of the right brain controlling the left side of the body and the left brain controlling the right brain.

If I'm right brain dominant, then why is it that my dominant eye is my right eye, and I am right handed?

I don't know how it just happened but as I checked back here she was turning anticlockwise and then is changed back.

Dammit, now my brain is doing loop-da-loops around this...

That just means you're a little bit of both, which in my opinion isn't a bad thing. You aren't one sided... (pun intended)

I've been testing this with different mindsets and I've found that I change my though process between what is typically right or left-brained while looking at the image it freezes for half a second and changes direction.

Re: Right brain or left?

I had counter-clockwise at first, then almost immediately I saw her go clockwise.

Very interesting... overall, I see more CCW.

Perhaps because I'm ambidextrous my brain is just confused?

Re: Right brain or left?

i'm left handed, but i fall into most functions on both sides of the brain..

i don't know how anyone can see her spinning anything but clockwise! Her stance shows that her right leg is sticking forward, and if you follow the point of the foot, it only goes in an elipse, clockwise...

i see no possible way that it can go (or as least be seen to be going) anti-clockwise...

Notlob: try imagining the ellipse her foot traces going back into space... it appears that she's turning CCW. That's how I see it, and it took work for me to see it the other way.

Most of your thinking is done on the right side of your brain (according to the first post).

I am talking about motor skills. If you move you right arm, its the left side of your brain that sent the signal for that action to happen.

She switches on me. First she's clockwise, then counterclockwise, then back again. It's never each for very long. Wonder what that means?

Re: Right brain or left?

I saw it spinning both ways, within two seconds. I looked at first and she was spinning clockwise; looked away and looked back and she's going counter-clockwise.

I've always been more left brain dominant, but only slightly.

Jenn, it means we're fucking awesome.
