the x-games is the biggest money making scheme. True skateboarding is just heading out at about 9:30 on a Sunday morning and challenging yourself as well as your friends. You spend the whole day on the streets with no rules.

Even though the x-games may be organized, there is still so much level of freedom and creativity. It may be a competition, but there still out there doing what they want. Plus this is these guys jobs. They're doing it for a living and they haee to be able to do what they like and enjoy. As well as most other careers.

everyone has to make money, the x-games gave skateboarding and other activities a boost.

everyone has to sell out to some extent to make the things you want happen

Hahahaha! soccer moms. I think skateboarding is an activity. I guess theres competition? But as one of you said, no coaches. You learn it on your own. If satbording is a sport, then is go-carting a sport? theres competition there (not as well organized) but still! *maybe a bad example, but you get what im saying?*

i don't really stand on either side of this matter, you can call it a sport if you want or not if you don't
it seems to me like skaters will consider it a sport, and people who have never tried it say it isn't
i just enjoy it a lot, i don't care what people call it

This is like the biggest dispute among skaters...I really don't give a rat's ass on either side anymore. It's a sport, but it's not the same kinda sport is all I can think of to say. Sure it's in the X-Games and the Gravity games, but those are just big groupings of competitions of various action sports or whatever the hell they're calling what we do these days. The point is if you spend so much time bothering to wonder whether it's a sport or a not, you're missing the point. The point is just to shut up and skate and not really let it affect you.

I am a major skateboarder and I do not give a damn about whether its a sport or not, just so long as I can still do it. It's fun, and it's my life.

I'm not sure I'd call it a 'sport', per se, because it's not organized, and there's really no teams or coaches, but It's one kick-arse activity, for lack of a better term. All I know is I'd rather watch a bunch of skateboarders doing there thing than five minutes of football lol ^.^

How bout this: why do we as humans feel the need to catagorize every single thing we come across?? Why can't we be comfortable with things just...existing??

I don't really give a crap if it's a sport or not. I love skating hours and hours on end until I'm too tired to move. I agree with Lola about not everything having to be classified. Some things just don't need to be.

Hmm is skateboarding a sport..... I would have to say yes cause because of all the physical work it involves, and just like other sports Skateboarding has its legends and its competitions.... X-Games are cool.
The confusing question, Is cheer leading a sport>?

This has been debated back and forth for a very long time, and I'm just tired of all the crap that people come up with. Why do we have to call it a sport or not, to me its just a way of life that's it. Oh and Lola, that's a great point, I've used that on another forum where the people are even more naive than I have ever seen.

But, honestly, who cares if it's a sport, as long as its fun?
