Your Browser of Choice

Another polling topic, because I'm trying to switch from Chrome to Firefox but have had some issues with it crashing. I read that turning off hardware acceleration may fix the issue, so wish me luck.

Anyway, what's your primary tool for browsing Almost Smart, porn and the other 1% of the internet?

Love chrome. But when I'm not on my laptop, I use Dolphin.

Re: Your Browser of Choice

I'm surprised to see a vote for Internet Explorer, but IE10 is actually a pretty good browser if you're on a touchscreen device like a tablet. It's probably the most touch-friendly browser I've used, and as a web developer I can assert that it finally does match the other browsers when it comes to code compatibility. The days of having to write code hacks to get a page to display properly on IE are almost behind us.

I had to switch away from Chrome because it became too damn slow. If I wanted to save a picture or anything, it would take almost a full minute for the file window to pop up. I thought that it was an issue with my harddrive, but Firefox opens the save window instantly.

Re: Your Browser of Choice

The problem I've always had with Firefox is that it is a memory sieve. If you leave a window open, it leaks so much memory it can slow down everything else substantially. If you close all windows and tabs immediately, Firefox is pretty awesome.

Re: Your Browser of Choice

The only time I ever used Opera was when I was using a laptop from 1998 in 2008. It's a really lightweight browser, but I other than that I don't know of any benefits to it.

I haven't used Firefox in so long that I completely forgot about Firebug and the Web Developer Toolbar. Being a guy who makes websites, these are two really useful tools.

Re: Your Browser of Choice

Firefox firefox firefox.

I have never had a problem with Firefox. It's user friendly, intuitive and while people have said they have had crashing problems mine has never crashed on me, with multiple browser pages open, and left open, for days, while playing video games.

Mind you I have a processor that has destroyed anything I've tried to do to it.

Since turning off hardware acceleration I haven't encountered the same problem as before, though I have had a couple of crashes and lock-ups that lasted ~10 seconds. Still, it's better than literally not being able to do anything in Chrome for about three minutes after I first start it.

Re: Your Browser of Choice

I, too, have had crash issues with Chrome. I prefer Firefox.

For my work computer I have to use either IE or Chrome. Haaaaate it.

Re: Your Browser of Choice

Chrome!!! Chrome for my laptop, Chrome for Android, Chrome all day and nothing else. I switched to Chrome 4 years ago and I've never looked back. Before that, I used Firefox. In the distant past, I used IE (yikes!)
