Yes, but isn't it sort of like dog breeds, where a german shepard is not a poodle, even if they are both dogs? Both are camelids, but they are not each other.

Well, dog breeds are vary so widely because of selective breeding. Camelids, though many species are domesticated, are still very similar to their wild counterparts. I've read that the domesticated ones are just as likely to spit as the wild ones. It's not a threatening thing. It's more like: "You won't leave me alone. Here. Have some partially-digested greens and stomach acid."
