ONE DAY BLOG SILENCE
Silence can say more than a thousand words.
This day shall unite us all about this unbelievable painful & shocking event and show some respect and love to those who lost their loved ones. On April 30th 2007, the Blogosphere will hold a One-Day Blog Silence in honor of the victims at Virginia Tech. More then 30 died at the US college massacre. But it´s not only about them. Many bloggers have responded and asked about all the other victims of our world. All the people who die every day. What about them? This day can be a symbol of support to all the victims of our world! All you have to do is spread the word about it and post the graphic on your blog on 30th April 2007. No words and no comments. Just respect, reflect and empathy.

Re: ONE DAY BLOG SILENCE
-_- I'm sorry, but that's a retarded idea. Blog silence? come on. A moment of silence has power because the world never stops and to cease all activity, even if only for one minute, is enough to cause introspection and reflection on the event. Simply not writing in a blog does nothing to honor the victims or even bring cause for reflection. Those people who choose not to write in their blogs are still going to be sitting at their computers doing something else, not reflecting or empathizing. Do you really want to honor the dead? Sit in silent meditation and fast for the day. Take time out of your life to pay respects, not free time up by refusing to write for a day.

I perceive the teachings of the world to be the illusion of magicians. I discern the highest conception of emancipation as a golden brocade in a dream, and view the holy path of the illuminated ones as flowers appearing in one's eyes. I see meditation as a pillar of a mountain, Nirvana as a nightmare of daytime. I look upon the judgment of right and wrong as the serpentine dance of a dragon, and the rise and fall of beliefs as but traces left by the four seasons." -Siddhartha Gautama |

Re: ONE DAY BLOG SILENCE
I'd rather pray for them instead of not posting in my blog -IMO.

Even fasting really has no effect. "I'm not going to eat lunch today in honor of the victims of VA tech."
Uh, no one cares if you miss out on a peanut butter sandwich. Try donating time/money to a charity instead.

Re: ONE DAY BLOG SILENCE
i think that sytrohs' point was that not writing in your blog doesn't make you stop and think about what actually happened, whereas with fasting the effort of not eating [and it is a conscious effort] is a constant reminder of why you are doing so - in order to remind yourself of the utter devestation that occured, and maintain prayers for the victims and family members who were so affected by the event.
yes, donating to an actual charity would have an actual effect on those involved, but it's very easy to click 'yes' on paypal and then forget about it - i think it's the bearing in mind that things like this /can/ and /do/ happen that is important. i'm sure the victims and their families will be tremendously grateful for all they receive to aid them in their recovery - but from the things these people actually say, it seems to me that what shocked them most was the reality of the situation, and that it's this reality they wish for everyone else to bear in mind. |

Re: ONE DAY BLOG SILENCE
Why does the families need money to aid in their recovery? Were paying them cause they had misfortune? Thousands of people die daily for countless reasons.. why would be give money to these families.. just cause their sotry was more public? Fuck that. Same deal with the 9/11 families... they got paid how much money??? Completely seperate from whatever life insurance paid out.
Of course i feel bad for them and sympathize... but that doesnt mean im going to give them money to make them happy again.

Re: ONE DAY BLOG SILENCE
Yeah, I'll pray for them. But people know its happened. We need to shut up about it for a while, let people have time to heal for god's sake!!
