Favorite Quotes
Upon searching the threads, I found none asking what people's most favorite or most used quote was.
I'm going to have to say that mine is by Theodore Roosevelt: "Believe you can and you're halfway there." EDIT: I did see EC's, but I feel that this is different from what he's talking about.

Re: Favorite Quotes
That would be quite a list, another favorite quote of mine is from One Piece, a line not said in America, but translated literally by fans.

I like it in Vacation (the first one) when he says:

Re: Famous Quotes
William Shakespeare wrote the line, but did not speak it in the play. Who said the line and why?

Re: Favorite Quotes
I give, I'm tired of searching for it. I know Theodore Roosevelt has said it, and I'm pretty sure countless other leaders have used it as well, but I cannot find the original person who has said it and why.

I am shocked!!
![]() Way to quote a quote and not know where it came from! Wrote by William Shakespeare, for The Twelfth night, spoken by Malvolio while reading a letter from "Olivia" (Olivia is in quotations because the letter wasn't actually wrote by her...it was a trick)

Re: Favorite Quotes
Oh man, I have a whole notebook full of quotes.
"It is not the critic who counts, not the one who points out how the strong man stumbled or how the doer of deeds might have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred with sweat and dust and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs and comes up short again and again; because there is no effort without error and shortcomings; but who actually strives to do the deed, who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotion, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at best knows in the end the high achievement of triumph and who at worst, if he fails while daring greatly, knows that his place shall never be with those timid and cold souls who know neither victory nor defeat." - Theodore Roosevelt "Here the ways of men part: if you wish to strive for peace of soul and pleasure, then believe; if you wish to be a devotee to truth, then inquire." - Friedrich Nietzsche "To realize one's nature perfectly--that is what each of us is here for." - Oscar Wilde "To be trusted is a greater compliment than to be loved." - George MacDonald "For it matters not how small the beginning may seem to be; what is once done well is done forever." - Henry David Thoreau "...dark is what brings out your light." - Robert Frost "The method of science, as stodgy and grumpy as it may seem, is far more important than the findings of science." - Carl Sagan "The answer to the Great Question of... Life, the Universe, and Everything... (is) forty-two." - Douglas Adams (Hitchhiker's Guide) "We all die. The goal isn't to live forever; the goal is to create something that does." - Chuck Palahnik "Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known." - Carl Sagan "Whosoever is delighted in solitude is either a wild beast or a god." - Aristotle "It is better to be miserable than to live in a false happiness." - Ms. Ann Richards "To kill an error is as good a service as, and sometimes even better than, the establishing of a new truth or fact." - Charles Darwin "The noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding... learning never exhausts the mind." - Leonardo da Vinci "Born a wildlife warrior, die a wildlife warrior." - Steve Irwin "Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it, too?" - Douglas Adams "For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring." - Carl Sagan etc, etc, etc (also the two in my signature)
