The extent of which he was an asshole portrayed in the movie leads me to admire him in my drunken stage. Someone that brazen deserves props.

I don't like Caligula for any further reason. Well, not any that I could think of at the moment, at least.

I watched that movie when I was like 13 or 14 years old.
It was cool how they put so much time and effort into making it seem as close as possible to how it really was.
I read somewhere that it took over 8 years to make that movie.
That's Bob Guccioni's crowning achievement.
Malcolm MacDowell did an excellent job with his role as Caligula as well.
What a crazy ass movie...especially during the time it was released.

The movie didn't turn out like it was supposed to. Bob Guccioni's the main one that fucked it up. The other two directors always intended it to be shocking, but there was supposed to be more plot. Guccioni cut out this scene with Caligula's daughter that I would've like to have seen. Also, he rearranged everything and edited it practically himself.

No.

The shot of Caligula being scared by a black bird while playing with a rat was originally part of a much longer scene in which he sets up many small chariots for a race to entertain his daughter, and, thus, was also meant to be included somewhere in between the I am God scene and the imperial bordello scene (along with several other cut scenes (such as the sacrificial scene and the scene where Caligula claims himself to be king of the gods) and relocated scenes (such as Proculus's death)).

This page lists many of the scenes that never made it to the movie... and much of the parts that got hacked up.
