South Park Ending?

After 15 seasons of South Park, looks like creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker are hinting that they've had enough, and will be ending the show soon.
Never thought I'd see a South Park episode with a "sad" ending...very strange...

This isn't anything new, actually. I remember when South Park was renewed at season 12. Comedy Central didn't want to lose one of its biggest cash cows and forced Parker and Stone into a three year contract.

I believe Parker and Stone wanted to stop at season 13 but it was Comedy Central that wouldn't let that happen. If you watch season 13, it is overall a good season with episodes like "The Coon" and "Fishsticks" (What are you, a gay fish?) and "Whale Whores" (Fuck you whrale!)....

....but season 14 wasn't all that great, imo.... although it does seem to have Parker and Stone (Executive Producers as of Season 13) trying to see how much they can get away with on Comedy Central. Consider the Mohammed episode and "Creme Fraiche".

I haven't enjoyed too much of this season of South Park. Wednesday's episode was the mid-season finale and, since I believe this to be the last season despite no official word, I expect the more controversial stuff to come in the second half of the season.

I expect the show will go on to critique its own benefactor (i.e., Comedy Central) as well as critiquing itself. The episode from the other night was liking the first half of a two-part arc in which both Comedy Central and South Park are scrutinized under light.

Re: South Park Ending?

I think everyone can agree new South Park isn't as funny anymore. I'd be sad to see it go, but 15 seasons is really a long run for any show.

Re: South Park Ending?

The creators of the Simpsons wanted to end it at the end of the 20th and they're still firing them out.
They are not as funny as they used to be, but I was surprised that it was still funny and entertaining overall.
Same can be said for South Park. And how can it be that difficult to get back to the old South Park formula where it was less about a message and just more about random silliness?

Re: South Park Ending?

south park has always been about the message. that's why south park can't end. as long as humans continue to live and do shit, south park writes itself.

and i can agree, the new season of South Park hasn't been THAT funny. I don't agree with, "isn't as funny anymore."

Yeah, pretty much... I wouldn't say that all the old episodes were just random silliness but there was certainly more of that and less message than there is today.

Trey Parker has certainly become a master at weaving a humorous story of outrageous, unbelievable, insane, and/or vulgar dialogue and actions around controversial issues and thought-provoking topics and sacred beliefs and tenets, etc. etc.

I mean... he really is a master of his trade... I look forward to his work in the future outside of South Park.

Re: South Park Ending?

I stopped watching sometime around when Kenny stopped dying every episode, not on purpose just kinda stopped caring about it without realising. I could see them starting up their own show straight on the net to avoid censorship, they've surely made enough money now not to care about profiting from what they create. That could be just wishful thinking on my part though, I bet they could come up with some good stuff if they didn't have to worry about content control.

i know right? i tell my friends they must be cracking up while they work. Thinking of stupid shit for their show. Just nonstop laughter of ideas.

I mean we all do it too within our own cliques. we laugh and talk and laugh some more. we dont need to be paid for it, but it would be nicer ha.

i wish i could work with those fools. i know they must be busy, but thinking of ideas has got to be hilarious.

--but then yeah... comedy central is only going to air e so much
