MMA or mixed martial arts tournaments are getting popular. UFC, Pride FC, K-1, Thunderbox and others. Its like a boxing match but you can use any discipline you have like karate, kung fu, boxing wrestling, and even streetfighting. And its bareknuckle match. The objective is to win by knocking down an opponent or making him submit. Many names became popular, Ken Shamrock, Bas Rutten, Dan Severn, Royce Gracie and more. Others consider this as violent and dangerous.

Question is, do you consider MMA a sport or not? Why?

I consider it a sport but this is only due to the skills that each fighter is using. People only believe it to be violent and dangerous thanks to films like 'fight club', if you watch a sanctioned official match the 'fighers' are well trained and know when to standback if they relise the other guy is injured.
The same goes for boxing and true martial arts matches, as long as the 'fighters' are trained and know how to use their skill the other guy 'should' not end up in a bloody mess, but somtimes this happens and that is when the protestors step in and say it is a dangerous and barbaric activity......

Most of the fights ive seen have situations of cuts, bruises, and lots of blood. But they have doctors to check it out if its serious or not. If they think its serious and could affect the thinking and discipline of the fighter, they stop the fight right away. Even theres bloody mess, i think they make pretty good job on checking on the fighters health. thats a good part of the event. and i think in statistics, most of the fights in MMA ended in submissions and not in serious injuries or dangerous knock outs.

yes of course this is a sport. this is how we can find out who is the best martial artist. kung fu, karate, wrestling, judo, or boxing. and also i think they have rules that they follow like in boxing. the matches come in rounds.

they also have medical doctors around in case some shit happens. see they care for their participants. and i dont know anyone dies from these fights.

i like ultimate fighting championship and my personal favorite fighter was randy couture. ive seen him beat fighters bigger than he is. i dont like Pride though. i hate it when they stop the match and transfer the fighters in the middle. and is K1 a mma? i thought its just kickboxing.

the violence you see while fighting is cool.

well, i don't see anyone or any participant died while fighting on the arena, so i consider it a sport just like boxing.

no it isn't, yes i'll grant you they have skills in the mma but they can easily get the shit kicked out of them by a proper martial artist...this is because the mma take the basics of each style and mix it up abit for use in the ring, a true martial artist would be expertly trained in his chosen profession......

Yea its a sport. Even if you see it as a barbaric sport the training and disipline that the fighters have are amazing. Not any athlete can train like that.
