ok... im pregnant. i have medicaid to cover my pregnancy. i saw the physician in my hometown one time before i had to go to another town. i am now 34 weeks and moved back home. i am trying to switch my doctors back so i dont have to drive an hour away in labor but they arent accepting me now. they refuse to let me talk to the actual doctor and refuse to tell me why they wont accept me. i have tried to call the maternity care coordinator and she knows nothing but yet the doctors office is telling me any further questions i have to ask her. i feel like they are denying me care just because i was in a rehab. ive looked and looked and cant seem to find what im looking for. wondered if anyone knew if they were violating my rights or could help me find it.

Is the physician in a private practice or a public hospital?

I'm pretty sure they can't do that. Talk to hospital administration about how they're treating you?

There has to be a substantial reason why a doctor would deny you care.. did you default on a payment or something? I know you said you have medicaid, but does that have co-payments and such?

Can you explore other options as far as doctors in your area?

Do you have any proof at all that the are denying you care because you were in rehab? If not, don't assume that. But do press on and see why this specific doctor is not seeing you. He/she may have a quota of patients that they have filled.

no im not for sure thats why and im trying not to assume that. the one doctor that i wanted to see had one spot open. the second one had two, and the other one didnt have a certain number she could accept. and no medicaid doesnt have a co-pay or anything. thats why i dont understand why they wont accept me. as far as other doctors in my area it would all be at least an hour away so it would easier to stick with the one i already have. its just totally inconveniant when i could be going in my own town.

It's probably because you're black.

It's probably because you're black. No, because she's poor and uneducated.

Go to the hospital management. Even if you switch to a different hospital, be sure that you tell the administrators how you were treated so it doesn't go un-noted.

You're from Cullman, Alabama. You're poor and uneducated just like your sister.Yeah...ok im not poor nor uneducated. i have regular insurance but it wont cover my pregnancy jackass. and i have a different dr already an hour away but since im back home then i shouldnt have to drive all that way. thats the whole point of why im upset. You are obviously uneducated. As to your financial situation I can only guess. But the two often go hand in hand. I'm not trying to be an asshole about your problems, but the best advice is obviously to go to the management of the hospital if you feel you're being mistreated. If you aren't going to do that, then maybe you're the jackass, not me.

so you think you have rights that are being violated because a hospital refuses to see you? What "rights" are these and where'd you get them?

You just got out of rehab? Your kids gonna have the fuckin' Downs, goodluck!I think the mommy might have downs, so the kid's double fucked.

As a private hospital, I'm pretty sure they have the right to refuse service. So, it's not like your constitutional rights are being violated or a law is being broken. However, if it's true that the hospital is refusing to admit you on the grounds that you're an ex-addict, then that reflects very poorly on the business ethics of the hospital. Go to upper management.

my kid is just fine thank you. i havent lived in cullman for most of my life so...

they do have a right to refuse service, but not to medicaid patients which is the whole issue. as a medicaid recepient, i have the right to receive treatment that is nearest me and not to be rejected because of medical history and to know why im being rejected.
