Not long after I joined AS, I posted a thread ( http://www.almostsmart.com/forums/showthread.php?p=198169#post198169) with an image and a quote by my favorite astronomer, Carl Sagan. The image was that of Earth itself, seen from 4 billion miles away taken by Voyager 1 at the recommendation of Dr. Sagan. For whatever reason, my original post garnered very little attention, but that's cool...
Anyway, this morning, I again was thinking of the pale blue dot image and decided to Wiki it. To my delight, I found yet another (very much more spectacular) image. (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap061016.html) I can only hope these images will move you as much as they do me.
In a way, the Hubble Deep Field image I posted a link to a few days ago (the "A Flood Of Planets" thread) doesn't make me feel nearly as insignificant as seeing the Earth like this... however as frustrated as I am with the state of space travel us stupid humans have, I'm still inspired, not depressed. I know I'm not the only one on Earth who wants to see humans reach the stars although I'm rather skeptical that I myself ever will. I'm not nearly as skeptical that one of you will at least have the opportunity...
