'They pave the way for freedom of speech'
That is a whole crock of bullshit. I can't believe i even listened to that for more than 2 minutes. Hammering on about 'freedom of speech' in a country that outsources protesting to 'safe areas' miles away from the point of protest, you must be joking.

I agree with Grunt...
That guy was going on and on about freedom of speech and how he wouldn't have it if it wasn't for the troops... yet Crook doesn't seem to be entitled to it just because he has a different opinion. I mean sure, the guy is arguing this the wrong way but that doesn't mean he has to be slaughtered on TV and be told he has freedom of speech because of them.
It's as if they're saying: "here, you have the freedom to say anything you want, aslong as it's the same as us."

Hannity/Colmes (HC) wasnt denying the fact he has the right to free speech. HC was pointing out how cruel it is to ridicule the very people that are giving their lives to give Crook that right. Its like getting presents for Christmas from your parents and then going off and cussing and yelling at your parents because they gave you those gifts.
Crook very much has the right to free speech. It was the fact that hes being cruel and mean to the people who are fighting to give him that right.

ugh, that was stupid. i don't agree with what the guy was saying, but that was absolutely pointless to bring him on the show only to tear him down and not give him a chance to talk about what he has to say, and to go on and on about his freedom of speech, which they seem to think shouldn't protect his point of view. crook even starts talking about the pay structure, and the guy goes 'i didn't ask you about the pay structure'. what was he brought on to talk about then? again. that was completely stupid.
to call him a moron and say that he's not worth talking to because he's an idiot is extremely disrespectful to his difference of opinion. i don't think he would have just up and decided that soldiers are overpayed. he prolly has some kind of info that lead him to that conclusion. you can't call him a moron for that.

shutting down a site that happens to not agree with your opinion isn't any kind of good cause.
where the hell is america gonna be headed if people can just go around closing the sites they don't agree with? they took away his right to have a website and express his opinion on it. that's screwed up. it's completely disrespectful to his point of view.

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting.
People like this Crook fellow are prime examples of why common sense should not take a backseat to the law. In a world full of common sense, Crook would've been shut down, forced to drag his ass back to school, learn something, and come out of it a better person. In a world full of common sense, people would find this sickening, rather than entertaining. But, most of all, in a world full of common sense, stupid bastards like Crook wouldn't exist.
The military are doing their damn best to defend his freedoms and rights, and even though they may not be doing it the best possible way, they are doing it the only real way they can. I'm not the biggest supporter of the war in Iraq, but I'm not blind enough to see that it is accomplishing something. Sure there are alot of hidden motives, but there are also results. If thats the price we have to pay, then damnit, it stinks, but I'll pay it. All I see when I witness someone like this Crook, is someone who is frustrated, ignorant, and is simply taking out his misguided rage on the weakest link. Those who can't fight back. It's petty, idiotic, and immature, and even though those news reporters/whoever the hell they were aren't really too much better, at least they can illustrate that such people do exist, and that they are indeed fools.
I vote they send Crooke to Iraq, where he can have a friendly conversation with some of the marines serving over there. A nice, calm, relaxed conversation, with the exchanging of mutual views, the gaining of understanding, and a peaceful resolution.
Failing that, they can always shoot the dumb fuck.
Edit: It was indeed quite stupid and hypocritical to take his site down. People can always choose not to go there if they disagree with it. Me being one of them. But bringing the fool onto the show was not as bad as people seem to think. They did indeed cut Crook off a fair few times, but they also advertised the URL of his site. This is so that the option was always there for people who were interested in his views (which they did give a somewhat brief insight into) to further investigate them, without forcing them down anyones throat. Now that his site has been shutdown, however, he has already lost the 'freedom of speech' that the troops were supposedly fighting for. The fight for freedoms and rights isn't in Iraq, it's in your own damn country.
Bah, this whole shindig is full of hypocrasies, fools and twisted patriotism.

Crook very much has the right to free speech. It was the fact that hes being cruel and mean to the people who are fighting to give him that right.
Of course he HAS the freedom of speech. Yet it was obvious in that video that he wasn't allowed to use it. Like RubberDucky said, they didn't even give him a chance to speak. All they wanted to do was get him out on TV and publicly humiliate him, just for having a different opinion. Now that opinion may be wrong in your eyes but he obviously had a reason to stand by it, otherwise he wouldn't have gone on TV or said all of those things on his website.
I vote they send Crooke to Iraq, where he can have a friendly conversation with some of the marines serving over there. A nice, calm, relaxed conversation, with the exchanging of mutual views, the gaining of understanding, and a peaceful resolution.
I'm not so sure the conversation will end up friendly after some of the things he said... though it might enlighten both parties on some of the issues that obviously need to be discussed. Though, if he does have a problem with the pay, why doesn't shouldn't he go directly to the people who issue the money, instead of the people who work for it?
Failing that, they can always shoot the dumb fuck.
All that would do is encourage people to kill anyone who doesn't share the same opinion as them. And is he really dumb because he is bringing up an issue he thinks is wrong? Is he really dumb because he has a different opinion to the majority?
schism-
07-11-2005, 02:52 PM
He's not dumb because he is bringing up an issue he thinks he's wrong, or because he has a different opinion to the majority, he is dumb because he is presenting an uninformed point and maliciously targeting innocent military workers because he needs someone to argue about, and they arent there to argue back. If his problem is the pay scales, why is he celebrating when troops die? He's using the free speech that these troops have fought for to meaninglessly berate them, demean them, and wish them dead.
What part of that is intelligent to you?
I can understand defending his rights, but I have no patience nor respect for anyone who dares defend his views.
Bubble Girl
07-11-2005, 03:12 PM
By celebrating when the troops die is obviously wrong on his part, and I do not agree with some of his views but shouldn't those people who have to handle these issues give him a chance? I mean ok, some of his opinions are rather extreme but that doesn't mean he has to be humiliated on television and then have his website shut down by a group of people who do not agree with him.
But I am simply defending his rights here, not his views.
RubberDucky55
07-11-2005, 04:55 PM
i don't think anyone on here could defend his specific views, but i think everyone should be upset about his site being taken down.
it was obvious that they had only put him on the show to insult him. the interviewer said that he wasn't 'bright' enough to talk to, when less than 2 minutes into the conversation. so why would they interview him? i don't think they intended to talk 'with' him at all.
and just something i would like to point out. the way i see it, soldiers in iraq are not fighting for our freedom. iraq had nothing to do with america's freedom. and so i don't think the two guys had any reason at all to state that the soldiers fighting right now have some kind of effect on whether or not we have freedom.

-- there are few points to outline, in my opinion --
First of all, the military is a job for some, a career for others... and to a select few, its a calling. There so many different reasons one would/could sign up for the military... school, career (electronics, enigneering, telecommunications, criminal law), military families, pride/patriotisim, to see the world, and for some... being able to shoot people.
The military has alot of good programs and perks for their enlisted & officers, and the majority of the resources at hand are free or pretty inexpensive. Not only do you get funding for school via the G.I. Bill, but you have on-base grocery stores, gas stations, liquer stores, strip malls... all of which are tax-free to soldiers, officers, and their families.
As far as them being over there still, well think about it...
if we don't finish what we've started, destroying these orginizations that were training, funding, and recruiting terrorists... then there will be no end to them. As far as the terrorist leaders go, captureing or killing these terrorist leaders will only breed more hatred because these brainwashed fools honestly believe that killing innocents will get them a spot next to Alah... isn't that just a little hippocritical... killing innocent people in the name of any god? Hmph!
The tricky thing about terrorism is that its an extremely mobile and easy to adapt method of "warfare" (if you will), and furthermore since your dealing with individuals or "cells" as opposed to regiments or soldiers, its alot harder to discern who is an enemy and who isn't. And with all the tension in the middle east right now, due to alegations & scandals involving the raping of Iraq's oilfields, ala bush and his carnies, only hightens the difficulty of the task at hand.
as far as i'm concerned we just need to give the CIA alot more funding and a little more flexability, pull out our troops and stick to black ops wiping out their training facilities... granted its unconstitional... but hey, so is the seizure of private property, making my marijuana plant illegal, and trying to define WITH RELIGIOUS INTERPRETATION, what marriage is... but we won't get into that.
and for the record:
FUCK BUSH!

I don't agree with Crook, but I don't think it was right to treat him like they did. It's just stupid to say, "You should love the troops because they fight for your freedom of speech and since you don't you're not allowed to have that right." Hmm, this Democracy tastes suspiciously like Totalitarianism. I made a funny.

Freedom of speech is such a lovely thing until someone says something you disagree with. It doesn't surprise me that interview was on Fox news, ugh. I'm sorry, I don't think the troops should be disrespected, but I think Fox should stop cashing in on the ignorance of their viewers to fight a strawman.
The freedom of speech amendment was passed in the 18th century...it's not exactly being threatened in this situation. Until the Iraqi government makes its little expidition onto American soil & tries to stop our presses, don't tell me that those troops are fighting for my freedom of speech.
