View Full Version : Jasmine (Jackthepanda) Banned?

Apparently... Why? The picture? or because she pissed people off? What about Indiana Tones? His Avatar is just as bad as Jasmines picture. Now don't get me wrong.... Neither of them really offended me, I'm just making a point. I suppose if you post something in 20 someones user notes.... but she would have taken them out if someone had at least given her a warning or something? Come on what's that? No Warning? I don't know... it seems to me I have definately seen worse on AS, and nobody cared.
Does the management want to fill me in a bit here?

jazzy said............and the thing is 1. there is nothing wrong with posting in people's user notes. 2. eric said there was nothing wrong with the pic and 3. eric SAID it was just because he got angry that he had to remove it
4.plus he banned for for three weeks without a warning
oh and 5. no one even ASKED ME to take it off, or said anything about it

3 weeks is a bit steep IMO, I'd lower it but Eric would smite me.

Maybe so, but it wasn't up to me (i thought it was amusing). It was up to Weasel, who had to go through and spend an hour deleting them. How do you think he felt?

Wobbie

Can she? I can't remember, because as a mod, i can delete anything, so i can't see if i can delete just mine. But still, Weasel got lots of complaints, and regardless of his own opinions, he has to deal with complaints. Lay off him. He was doing his job.

from what i know she can edit them, but not delete them.
just some questions besides... what would you think about if a person would have done it who joined just a few month or even weeks ago? would that make a different in your jugement? and should everyone be handeld the same way on AS?
Summer Gurl
06-06-2005, 12:29 AM
.. we all know jazzy and that she was only jokeing around... so ... she should be unbanned... thats all that matters right now!
Wobbie
06-06-2005, 12:31 AM
Good point Hamana. Sure, some people, like me, found it funny. But the people that complained had every right to. And (sorry jasmine, you know i still love ya) Weasel had every right to get angry at having to clean it all up because of the complaints.

So wait it took an hour to delete 20 pictures from the user notes?
It makes me wonder what processes go into deleting the offensive picture/user note in the first place.
Furthermore, as someone else said, isn't 3 weeks a little long to be banned? Especially for something so trivial. Weasel - you said so yourself that the picture wasn't the problem but the fact that you had to spend time deleting them. Three weeks? No offense, but that is quite an oppressive act.... fascist like, even.

06-06-2005, 12:35 AM
Sure she was joking around and we can all appreciate that, but some people don't want something like that in the usernotes. So, we complain to Eric, who has to deal with it. And I'm sure it's very annoying to have to go through usernotes and delete stuff like that.
So even though I know Jasmine would have gone back and edited if asked, I think the banning was fair. The few weeks was probably steep, but this is Eric's site and he- and Madre- pay for it. The majority of us don't. Ultimately it's his decision.

I'm not sure if it was only in 20 people's usernotes. I opened it up and he was right here in the room with me and saw it right away. Then later he told me "she sent it to everybody". So I'm guessing she sent it to everybody on AS. Right in this thread there are almost 20 people that know about it. So I think it was a lot more than 20 people that actually got it.

I'm not, either....I just didn't want to see that every time I went to my usernotes. Didn't get the chance to ask Jasmine about removing it, though.
I do think it would be easier if people had the ability to edit their own usernotes, so that complaining to Eric wouldn't be necessary--we could just take out the offensive stuff ourselves.

So you got a PM saying that you got one? But never saw what the user note actually was? Therefore you can't say "No" to the statement above referring to the fact that Jasmine only sent it to people online.
Because she didn't send you one.

Any time you get a usernote, you get a PM about it. The usernote could be deleted before you see it but the PM is still there, Emperor.

Why were they deleted for people who didn't complain about them? Or was this Eric fellow just deleting them all to save time and trouble?
I'm defending Jasmine not only because she is my friend but also because I don't believe that her actions warrant such an extensive ban, especially considering that she's a very active poster and keeps a lot of threads and debates alive, well, and flourishing.
Therefore, it is my opinion that Jasmine's punishment should have been a warning and her actions seen as a precedent for future rulebreaking. In other words, now the forum rules should read that "User notes of a distasteful nature are to be avoided" or something like that.
Doesn't that make sense?

I think Eric deleted the rest because he knew that complaints would come soon enough.
I think a warning would have been appropriate, and Jasmine has never willingly broken any big rules of AS. And I agree with your statement that she keeps threads flourishing.
It's out of our hands, though.
But I betcha this won't happen again. Maybe he just made an example out of her, or something.

I also noticed the forum rules were updated as of yesterday, June 5th 2005.
On a more personal note, I find it a little unsettling that so many people are bothered by this picture. Let's look at the facts:
1) It's an animated .gif of two people having sex.
2) The people in question are rather large.
3) Their overall girth mostly covers their "naughty regions".
4) The user notes on Jasmine's profile use the following terms or phrases to express their distaste to the picture:
* gagging
* gross
* lost appetite
* puking
* And Jenn and tonic never wants to think about fat people having sex ever.
What Jasmine did was an act of callowness, but in your responses a lot of you seem to have the air of a callow person as well. I mean... come on... it is two fat people having sex. The gelatin-like jiggles you see is the ripples of fat in motion. It's like two bears going at it only less hairy.
I can't for the life of me figure out why obesity and jiggling fat are so painful to the eyes, throat, stomach, and well-being of reasonable, intelligent individuals.
They are mere lipids! LIPIDS!! It's not like it's a fucking contagious virus or anything.
Who is the one being more offended here: the fat people fucking or the fat person typing to you now?
-=-=-=-=-=-=-
And this is from Jasmine herself:
[01:21] ilike2scoot: if I knew it was going to cause so much freaking drama I would never have posted the shit

Yeah, i just added stuff onto the end, and (sorry, edited again) I think he still would have got complaints with any kind of porn usernotes.
Lots would complain about getting any kind of porn as a usernote.I have to agree, I didn't get a usernote but I saw the pic and I didn't care. However, even at other boards I go to; even if you have a beauty woman in a bra and she...errr....fills it out well, many and I mean many still complain. Some people just have strict ethical and religious backgrounds or they still find that offensive and even any type of nudity is inappropiate to them. It was still tasteless to post the pic in the first place and by doing so some were offended and others wern't *I wasn't, but meh!*.

I don't believe for a moment that anyone would be nearly as offended if the picture had been of "beautiful people". Go back to my post where I listed the words that were used to describe the picture.
If you're saying people would complain no matter what because it is porn... fine. I'll buy it. But to the extent, and obvious disgust, by which certain users displayed their disapproval.... it is quite obvious to me that the negative reaction came as a result of a predisposition towards disliking obese people.
And by the way, what of this then?

Jasmine posted it in the first place, to make people laugh. Some people didn't find it funny, some did. That's what happened.

http://www.almostsmart.com/forums/image.php?u=541&dateline=1117573450Trust me, I was shocked to how many people complained about some of the pics people posted in different threads at different boards. Even if the people in question are good looking. Also yeah, if the pic was two thin people having sex of course the comments would be different; but I pretty much guarntee there still will be many complaints.
Meh! big people need loving too, but if you post any people have sex at majority of discussion boards you pretty much get banned right away. It's all due to most of their rules state that no one can post poronography on the board. Here I forget the rules it's been awhile since I came back here.
Well normal porn is ok to me, but cartoon porn is sick to me. However, it might not be by other standards; it all depends on the person. You talk to people about hentai and some love it and others just hate it.
EmperorChaos

This is going nowhere... but it's all irrelevant...
There is nothing in the forum rules against what Jasmine did... nor is the reason she is banned because of the picture.
Look at her usernotes... Eric says that he has no problems with the picture, but rather, the fact that he had to spend an hour deleting the 20 or so user notes she left.

Hey I'm not saying Eric is right or wrong, but due to peoples comments he had to act. 3 weeks maybe steep, but on other boards you pretty much get a perm ban for posting stuff like that. I don't see any rules for this forum that state you cannot post porn. In my opinion, common sense and decency would dictate that you shouldn't, but there are no rules for Almost Smart that I see. I actually messaged Eric about that--stating that Jasmine's actions should be viewed as a precedent for future infractions but not be an immediate violation of a non-existent rule. Sure, this is his site and he can do what he wants. But if it were mine, I would much rather just use what has happened here as a precedent for a new rule. Otherwise it is hypocritical, in my opinion.

That's irrelevant. There was nothing wrong with the image. It was just a fat ass bobbing up and down. As I said, Eric was upset because he had to spend time deleting all of the images (which I don't seem to understand how 20 images could take up so much time to delete. Maybe a mod or admin could set me straight?).
And yes, he had to act. And he did. By deleting the images. A simple warning would have worked in place of the ban, in my opinion. Jasmine loves this site and posts on it constantly... she wouldn't risk getting banned if she'd been issued a warning.

Did he take thr right action to act? some say yes, but others will say no. It really is hard to please everyone...especially me:ermm: I have anger issues *nods*
I am not offended by the cartoon I just think it's gross. It's like drawing pics of the Little Mermaid having sex with the Beast from Beauty and the Beast....why do people do that? beats me, but some people who see these types of things like to beat of.....nevermind.

It takes long because you have to go into every single person that you are deleting's usernotes. The time adds up. Say you went into 20 different people's profiles, but had to do something in each one. That would take up more time than you think. Plus responding to each person that complained, telling them you had deleted it.

Meh! she is one of his friends so he will be extra defensive when it comes to this.

I don't know her due to I left the board for several months. Still shocked about the news of Spadetje
yea. i'd been a member for a while but only started posting again right after it happened. I didn't know her but its has affected everyone. Posting on this site is certinley reduced.

Actually technically if you post images like that constantly that is still considered spam. Even in shoutboxes at different boards, if you spam in them you get banned.
EDIT: Even if you send offensive pms or just send random pm to random people that's sill considered spam, even though it doesn't relate to their post count.
No, due to they are examples of other boards shows that he actually was easy on the situation. He runs a pretty laid-back approach to the board, plus 3 weeks is not that long. Do I think she should be banned that long? probally not.
Your her friend so you will defend her at all costs. I understand, but it was tasteless what she did. Step inside other peoples shoes and see it through their perspective. It didn't offend me, but it did others.

* Do not flood the forums with useless posts.

* Repeated posting of nonsense and spam in order to increase your point or post count will result in an IMMEDIATE ban.
I think we've violated several of those rules already.
And my point, which you seem to keep overlooking is that it is the responsibility of the forum adminstrators to specify their rules for the forum clearly. I'm not blaming anyone... but you can't keep referencing instances involving other sites you go to. I personally don't think that Almost Smart's rules are explicit enough. Hopefully this is something that Eric will look into so that incidents like Jasmine's ban and this ridiculous argument can be avoided in the future.

For the record, I'm not her friend in real-life... only online. She dragged me to this forum to debate with her and I came. I found that many of those with whom I was debating were weak debaters that often skipped my points and restated their original points in different ways. In some situations, they create the inevitable straw man. This is generally where I just stop debating and quit posting. Thus, they think that they've won... but I've know the truth and that's what matters. Once a straw man is entered, the debate loses its fun.

I don't think it's bad, but some did since they complained. Well this entire thread is pointless, if you have a problem pm the admins and complain to them. That's what others did in this situation and that's what caused this all to unravel.
No I'm not overlooking it, like I said I'm not saying Eric's approach was correct or wrong, but common sense and damn well pretty much every other board states what she did was a huge no-no. Do I think she should have gotten a warning? yes possibly, but I didn't see how times she posted that pic in different usernotes. Oh I'm sure after this situation Eric probally will take action to avoid further drama. However, would there be this much debate if the person was around for just a few days? probally not.
Your still close right? Hey once again I'm not saying you or Eric are wrong as Nancy said "i'm just stating the facts, as i see them". BTW are you calling me a straw man? I don't even consider this to be a "real" debate anyways.

I'm not exactly sure... but I think the straw man is where people are ignoring other users posts and just restating their own opinions without furthering the debate in any way shape or form.

This thread is turning into a repeatitive arguement, so it will be closed until Weasel can review the appeals, and come to a decision on what to do about it all.

I'm going to unban her considering I didn't give any warning and this isn't mentioned explicitly in the rules.
A word of warning to everyone though...mass posting the same copy/paste post many times is a good way to make people mad. Especially if it makes you lose your lunch.
